This threads kind of old, and that was already noted in the first reply by Kimi... ;-)

Also to be noted, in I'm Sorry for Liking You! by Utata-P, she gets contact lenses that are pink, but they blow tons up.

Can people stop talking about a trend that has ceased to exist? No one cares about the "Item War" anymore. If they did care, the creators would've given them an item from the start.

That's not totally true, my friend. I mean, did Crypton announce Miku's official item was the spring onion from the start? Nope. It was the fandom. I'm sure that the First Place logo itself is enough to be an item. Hell, I could probably think of many things to give our Ia. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that we have to find something that suits Ia. We gave Rin the orange and Len the banana because of their appearances. We gave Miku the spring onion because it was in the Ievan Polka. I hope I've proven my point. Thank you for your time.

^ You're as bad as them for bumping threads un-necessarily.

Nothing irks me more than your statement of "we have to find something that suits Ia."

No.  No, we don't. :I  We don't have to give IA or SeeU or Rion or Mew or AVANNA or Yukari an item at all.  The fandom's moved past the item meme.  And by the way, Western fandom has no influence over the items anyways, it was the Japanese that did it.  So no, we didn't give Rin the orange and Len the banana and Miku the spring onion

^ I was just trying to state that we can still use our imagination. (In my mind, I somehow thought Ia suited ramen noodles. I'm sure neither fandoms agree with me. Oh well. Mew, well, I'd give her a cat while anon and kanon have bread. (Not French bread.)) Ever since Lily, I know the trend has definitely died down, but it's still kind nice to give them something to differentiate. I already knew that the Western fandom doesn't have an influence on Japanese Vocaloids, but again, it's nice to dream. I was definitely tired last time I posted (due to daylight savings) but now I'm conscious and know what I'm posting. I was just trying to prove that the Item War isn't totally over, but adding your point, it has gained less popularity. (I only discovered the fandom in June 2013, so I'm still somewhat naive about the Item War and other things. (You know, now thinking, I'd like to see Miki with cherries.)) Sorry for being an inconvenience to the public. I'll try to stop. (I think I get that from my dad's side of the family because they're...agh...)

Yeah, it's fun to use one's imagination, but personally, my problem with this stuff lies in the fact that people still think this is "round table discussion/agreemen"t type of stuff that helps toward making anything mass fan-cannon. Sitting around brainstorming with others on who should get what is part of what gets annoying here... in reality there was no group brainstorming behind the fan items/personalities that exist with the older V2 era Vocaloids. People just took inspiration from songs/PVs/fan manga and ran with what they thought was funny about each, all while putting their own comedic spin on them in their own creative works... which, if you think about it, is how an actual meme is created in the first place.

Long story short: If people want to try and get a meme to start, they just do it, no discussion needed. If it catches on, cool. If not, then that's that. It's really nothing that complicated.

Either way, we're dangerously close to 60 Vocaloids. (...or are we actually there yet?) And considering the fact that all of them are pretty unique in their own right already, adding more complext stuff to an old and worn out meme seems kind of redundant if differentiation is the main purpose of fan items. It actually adds more to the misconception that most newbies believe them to be official anyways... (・_・)

I get what you mean. I've been part of the fandom for (almost) a year and I consider myself pretty new, so I make tons of mistakes about Vocaloid. But I have been watching this Vocaloid series : [AtH VX2 History of the Vocaloids EXTRA 2 - Official Derivatives and the Item Wars]

Although the video is old, it explains the Item Wars a bit. You should really check this guy's channel out because he's one amazing dude and has made a video on every single Vocaloid released. (I'll note that some Vocaloids have their own videos while others were bunched together in his first series, "History of the Vocaloids". He also has made some videos on UTAUs.)

All of the Vocaloids are very unique, though some of them (Rin, Len and Luka) have carried/are carrying (not to mention Anon and Kanon) a past Vocaloid's (Miku) style. (Of course, CV01-03 were all drawn by KEI, giving them an exception. And although Anon and Kanon have outfits similar to Miku's, they don't look exactly like Miku.)

I do agree with many of the things that you have just said and hope you think the same. If not, it's fine.

^ Yes we have indeed heard of him before you linked to him (I do beleive it was on one of Angel's blogs).

Not to mention you add yet another insult to injury by comparing Vocaloids solely on their design? Maybe you don't actually but you are heavily implying that in your 3rd paragraph. I'll give you that you're at least looking up those videos so you're at least aware of what Vocaloid actually is, which is, rather sadly, a + for newbies in this fandom.

Maybe we could "agree with you more" if you thought a bit more rationally. We get that you're new and that you couldn't possibly know all but some people when they enter a new fandom get so excited to the point where they don't stop to think about things a bit more. And this isn't just "find out all the info on every Vocaloid" but more "think about what you're seeeing before you say anything".

I am aware I will most likely come off as heavily stubborn in this but it is not to ridicule you at all, but to raise awareness to you before you come across someone who will be down-right nasty when you say that to them.
