Lol. This reminds me of someone talking about Sonic the hedgehog and how officially he can not have full commitments to a GF as SEGA likes to keep him free. It was spoken in regards to Sonic in the Archie StH comics. They spoke how SEGA won't let Sonic marry anyone in "current storyline" and how "future Sonic" has to be treated as a "possible future" rather then anything official. I bet Disney has something similar in terms of mentality. A lot of the female characters were made as "female counters" to male existing characters. Sort of like Supergirl was to Superman originally.

Anyone ever seen the Eddsworld episode Mirror Mirror? It features genderbent female versions of three main characters (Edd, Matt and Tom) in a seperate parallel dimension, although at one point the female Edd enters the boys' dimension through a mirror to grab a sword. I was always under the impression that Rin and Len were essentially the same concept with one being the opposite gender counterpart that somehow made it into the other's dimension. Which kinda makes Rin x Len selfcest

Many people in this world have the same last name, but that doesn't make them any closer related than Rin and Len.

But I to think of them as mirror images (without a specific relationship) just like how they are originally supposed to be

They're robots with Len being the male counterpart of Rin.

Or they're humans in a band with Kaito, Meiko, Miku, and Luka, were born at the same time, look and sound like genderswapped versions of each other, and even have the same surname b\c of theme naming, and thus are drawn with the same hair and eye colors.

I know in Project Mirai DX, GUMI calls them "the yellow haired twins", and in nealy every single, if not every single official figure produced, they are stated to be twins. Also, Crypton's official website calls them "the charming and powerfull twin vocals". Their illustrator KEI thinks of them this way too it seems.

When it comes to the mirror reflection thing however....

I think it could be interesting to think of them as like a generic femal character and a genaric male character in a video game, where you choose one to be a blank slate for your player and then you add personality to them.

"Twins" can refer to there being just two of them. They were conceptualised as androids like Miku, so aren't the same as human twins. CFM has dropped the concept since though still refer to them as "twin vocals".

Yes, they're counterpart playable characters from a videogame. Well, voices from an app really. They're not much more than like two sound effects from any other app.

They're like the Vocaloid version of Lucas and Dawn from Pokémon. They aren't suppose to be related in story but they look alike because they're counterparts and it's the same for rin and len
