AKAZA, is an alternative mascot for the Japanese VOCALOID4 Unity-Chan! software that was released for "Unity with VOCALOID", which is distributed by Unity Technologies Japan and uses the VOCALOID2 engine. She was later released for the VOCALOID4 engine in January 2016, developed and distributed by the YAMAHA corporation.
She is voiced by a Japanese amateur voice actress, Asuka Kakumoto (角元明日香 Kakumoto Asuka).
She was first used for Candy Rock Star, a 3D "live performance" using Unity technology. In the Candy Rock Star video, she performed "UNITE IN THE SKY!". AKAZA was used to act as a representative for the VOCALOID vocal of Asuka Kakumoto and acted as a second vocalist for the song alongside Otori Kohaku, who was voiced by Kakumoto herself.
The presence and creation of her was meant to represent the overlap between both the real voice of Kakumoto and the voice of Kohaku used to create Unity-Chan within VOCALOID. This is because although they share the same vocal source, they are liken to having two different vocalists.
- Otori Kohaku: Shares the same voicebank.
- The duet with her VOCALOID was quite a experience for Kakumoto and she didn't believe it was her own voice.
