So recently I've made two major updates;
*Nana just has a note added to her V3 voicebank about her English
*VY1v4 had some corrected information.
I'm going to say it... Of those two the latter one is a bit more concern. So I'm just going to explain it here.
Until 2018 we had a nasty little forum that used to throw a hissy fit if we didn't agree with them. The result was that a lot of its members would auto-discredit us if they didn't agree with their opinions. This was getting better and better over time due to the departure of the more bias veterans, but even in the end the levels of toxicness kinda was there.
So, one of the things to be aware of is anything pre-2018 written... Is subject to being written under stress. We still get criticism but its not as focused in one place as it once was and its kinda scattered.
I'm going to go over things this year and double check stuff thats older then 2019 for a reason. I think it was last year I updated the XSY page to talk about some of the flaws of XSY, some of this was difficult to write about due to having some problems explaining things.
https://vocaloid.fandom.com/wiki/Cross-Synthesis
XSY got hit by the old problems of that era and we're still paying for it now. Basically, everyone would focus on the main thing they valued over something, like XSY was the ability to make a new vocal from two different ones. But the shiness of the idea meant the original concept which was to act as a TRANSITION between two vocals got missed. In 2019 I fixed up the page to correct this, but had I done this in 2016, there would have been a backlash and that forum may have gone "You don't know what yours talking about" as they did to me over EVEC + Luka.
I think there was only a few things I got wrong about XSY and EVEC but... Its long been fixed and sorted. ^_^
The west created a lot of the misinformation I hate to say it that other westerners thought was true. >_<
Again, I kinda point to the biggest example was the old "Japanesse versus English" debate of V2, it took me years to sort out how wrong that was and English wasn't "less realistic". As I said on Discord, within 2 days of me writing "Len doesn't produce satisifactory masculine results...." in light of VY2's development, I got someone questioning it on the forum. Even though I sourced it.
The forum kinda made me for a number of years not have much confidence in myself over trying to write stuff that conflicted ith what the fandom said, so I apologise for that.
Anyway, I'm going to work on correcting at least rthe XSY stuff on each page... *le sigh* I mostly wanted to talk about this since a lot of the problems with "early versus now" of the wiki have been brought up in "Discussions" in recent months. So I thought I'd just explain, drop an apology and a "I'm working on it" note before I begin so everyone knows whats up.
(Edit: Quick note, the forum was like "yaya we can use X vocal and Y vocal to make Z new vocal" and they didn't even realise that XSY was originally made to transistion between vocals... This was common and they just focused on the new vocals thing which drowned out the information until I manage to find it in 2019 on XSY again).
The criticism towards the wiki still goes on (Anyone who knows about the criticism on our Act2 page knows my reaction to some criticism last year is 'You've got to prove its wrong as this has been confirmed its correct for 8 years now'). Its hard to prove something is wrong, and I appricate it when it is proven wrong.
The wiki is, and always will be, a WIP and is only as accurate as the available infomration we have at any given time. That changes at literally any moment. :-O
