Ryuto VOCALOID2 VOCALOID3

This is an article about the Gachapoid software for the VOCALOID2 engine. Gachapoid is the product name for VOCALOID Ryuto.

HistoryEdit

At the Nico Nico Douga Live Event "2010 Summer: Egao no Chikara event" on August 26, 2010, YAMAHA, Fuji TV Kids and the INTERNET Co.,Ltd announced that they would release a new voice pack for the VOCALOID2 singing simulation software. They said that the pack will be based on Gachapin, a green baby dinosaur character, from Hirake! Ponkikki, a popular Fuji TV kids' program which ran from 1973 to 1993. The voice of Gachapoid was offered by Kuniko Amemiya, a voice actress, who also gave her voice to the original Gachapin.[1][2]

The "Gachapoid", Gachapin x VOCALOID voice pack CD", was released on October 8, 2010, with a special green case and a free six-month subscription based on VOCALOID-flex to Nico Nico Douga's premium paid service.[3]
Two demo songs had been given out on his official page.

Other SoftwareEdit

Gachapoid is the only VOCALOID of the VOCALOID2 vocal with additional vocal software support. Gachapoid has access to the VOCALOID-flex engine and is used in conjunction with the software "V-Talk". V-Talk allows Gachapoid to be used in new ways, opening new methods of delicate editing to alter his vocal results.[4] He is the first commercial VOCALOID to have access to this engine. Previously, only the prototype voicebank by Crypton Future Media, CV-4Cβ, was known to have used this engine. The result was that Ryuto's voice had potential that other VOCALOIDs did not.

Users can use this for 6 months, free of charge from the date of installation.

Note: V-Talk does NOT come with Gachapoid V3, only VOCALOID2 Gachapoid.

Final RetirementEdit

At the end of 2015, it was announced that from March 31st 2016, VOCALOID2 was being retired and no new serial codes were be issued by Yamaha.[5]

Package details
He is the CV of voice provider Kuniko Amemiya and his voice is intended to be the "singing vocals" of "Gachapin", a popular character from a japanese TV show. Gachapoid was the 3rd member of the "poid" series and the first non-professional singing vocal produced by Internet co., Ltd.
Vocal traits as noted:
  • Gachapoid is the only VOCALOID2 commercial voicebank that has access to the VOCALOID-flex engine, that is used in conjunction with the software V-Talk, which make him able to speak instead of sing, opening new methods of delicate editing to alter his vocal results.
  • His vocals are different to any previous VOCALOID voicebank, giving him a "unique" quality.
  • Due to the unrealistic nature of the vocal itself, Gachapoid has a large amount of flexibility within his voice.
  • His voice has a very particular tone that gives him a certain personality while singing.
  • The vocal has the smallest optimum vocal range within the VOCALOID2 era.
  • As noted in his Gachapoid V3 release, Ryuto's vocal is not geared towards any specific genre of music.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • Issues with smoothness in vowels, this was an issue reported in the update of V3 Gachapoid.
Software issues as noted:
  • In his raw state, this vocal suffers from problems with harmonization as he does not blend well with other VOCALOID vocals and can make him harder to use with other VOCALOIDs. This means Gachapoid often is better as a solo vocalist, rather than accompanied with other VOCALOIDs since his voice will have a tendency to sound awkward against theirs. Editing can remove this issue, but his vocal traits can be lost to this process.
  • His voice is reported to be "difficult to work with"
  • He cannot produce a satisfactory low masculine vocal tone. His lack of masculine capabilities is owed to being voiced by a female vocalist.[6]
