Haku Yowane (弱音ハク Yowane Haku) is an officially recognized derivative. Her name is taken from Yowane meaning negative sayings/thoughts and Haku roughly translated as utter. Her first name and last name make a play on words "yowane-(wo)-haku" (弱音(を)吐く), meaning to say negative thoughts or to show white feather. Her white hair is from ハク, which has the same pronunciation with 白 (white).

HistoryEdit

Haku was originally made as a representation of songs that use Hatsune Miku but ended up sounding awful. In such cases, the makers of that music would then proceed to whine about how their work never received attention and later moved on to whine when criticism stated their work as dull and boring, or was posted quite late when few people were on Nico Nico Douga. She became popular and her creator Caffein later established other characters following the same procedures, each representing a slightly different aspect of failure within the Vocaloids.

It has been pointed out by some fans when speaking about songs and PVs that feature Haku singing, that if one succeeds at producing a "bad" song, then no failure was met in the process. There are a small number of fans who disapprove of such songs, this is because it can be considered a contradiction to the point of Haku's existence being based on failure. This in particular is also aimed at the Haku songs that end up sounding "good" as Haku was meant to be far from this ideal. However, whatever songs that come out in her name are subject to the interpretation of the producer, whether they follow Haku's depiction of failure or not.

Acceptance into VocaloidEdit

Haku is one of the Vocaloid derivatives that became officially recognized by Crypton Future Media, the publisher of the Character Vocal Series for Vocaloid 2. The other derivatives bearing this distinction is Miku Hachune, Neru Akita, Meiko Sakine, and Tako Luka.

AppearancesEdit

MikuMikuDance (MMD), 3D software
An MMD model of Haku was created in August 2008 by modeler Animasa. See the Haku Yowane (Animasa) page for details, and also see other Haku models.
Maker Hikōshiki Hatsune Mix, manga
Haku makes a cameo appearance as a student of Neru (ch6) and is also in chapter 7 and chapter 14, then she later appears drinking sake with Meiko (ch16).
Chibi Miku-san, 4-koma manga
A popular 4-koma that portrays Haku in adult form, she is introduced (#50) as an owner of a local candy shop in Vocalotown, she is a friend to both of the Hatsune sisters and is allergic to almost anything fun. Aside from that, her personality is very identical to her original character (done by Caffein), except for her alcohol abuse.
Project Diva (PD), game
Haku is an available character in the PSP game, Hatsune Miku ~Project Diva~ and again as a playable character in its sequel. Her appearance in the first Project Diva game did not carry her "official" personality, and was as cheerful as Miku. This was corrected in Project Diva 2nd, complete with moody mannerisms if the player has not chosen her for a long time.
Fanmade Promotional Videos (PV)
Haku is commonly seen in fanmade videos, portrayed in various ways or simply dancing.
Merchandise
Official licensed Haku figurines have been produced, such as Nendoroid Puchi and a scale model.

Voice ConfigurationEdit

Configuration: Hatsune MikuEdit

EXPLAINED:
Haku is previously marked as badly-done Miku Hatsune songs, and in earlier times, are downpitched Miku songs. However some have tried to give her an actual voice. The following is one example of an actual configuration that produces an approximate voice for Haku, as a mature-sounding Miku.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
BREATHINESS (BRE) 0 BRIGHTNESS (BRI) 20 CLEARNESS (CLE) 15
GENDER FACTOR (GEN) 30 OPENING (OPE) 10 × ×
SPECIAL NOTES:
Other than the configuration, Haku's voice sounds better in lower octaves. No other adjustments are needed unless necessary. This configuration could be used with the Miku Dark or CV_Dark_Early database to give "Haku" a more depressed sound, though theoretically, the config can work with any Miku Append voicebanks. This configuration, using Miku's voicebank, is written and commonly used by Orochi Herman. Crediting for this configuration, while preferred, is not mandatory.

Another configuration suggests a manipulation of MEIKO's voicebank to produce Haku's voice, but such configuration is not yet publicly available.

Should the configuration be adopted for Miku Hatsune's English voicebank, Haku will retroactively gain the ability to sing in English.

Notable WorksEdit

While Haku is regarded to sing any song that is a "failure" song of Miku, since she can have a voice config, it is possible for her to have an individual song dedicated to her.

Description
"Your VOYAKILOID" is a parody of Miku's original song "Your Diva." Basically, it's Haku telling whoever bought her that she from now on is their VOYAKILOID. She talks about being considered horrible, and she constantly brings sake and drinking into the song. In all honesty, she wants to tell everyone her feelings through songs, but she chooses to be worthless because she will forever only be a singing robot and have the voice of a singing robot. She then explains though that she's fine the way she is. After all, the one who installed her is her "drinking buddy." She finally states that she will keep drinking because she is (your) VOYAKILOID.

TriviaEdit

  • Haku is referred to as a "VOYAKILOID" (in Japanese, ぼやく) - 'Boyaku' means grouchy or to grumble and complain, the pronunciation in Japanese is Boyakiroido.
  • Going by Caffein's character sheet commentary, Haku's early design had a tinge of grey skin, but it was not well received. Her red eyes were not an attempt to reflect albinism, but merely inspired while watching a Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. music video on Nico Nico Douga, the character named Major has red eyes.
  • While she was conceptualized to originally be a Miku user, Caffein states it is not a problem to think of her as a failing Vocaloid, or a co-worker, or the lady at the small candy shop et cetera.

  • I mean stop messing with them.....................................

  • LEAVE FANMADE VOCALOIDS ALONE!!!!

  • SIGH!!! Why are there so many fanmades? all of them sucks, except haku :D

    • please respect the above rule "Comments that use inappropriate language, are irrelevant, are inflammatory will be deleted"

and haku in my own opinion is overrated in the westren fandom, she's forgotten in the japanese fandom.

    • The fan made ary is numerous, but everyone lists ont he front page isn't a fan made at least.

(I can't comment on Haku because I don't have much interest in fanmades and my honest opinion wouldn't be met well. ^_^' ).

    • LEAVE ALL FANMADES ALONE!!!!!!!

  • My Favorite Vocaloids (Orderly Arranged from Most to Least Favored : Rin Kagamine, Len Kagamine, Luka Megurine, Miku Hatsune, YOWANE HAKU, Kaito Shion, Meiko Sakine and............................... Gakupo Kamui! Now, who is YOUR favorite among them?

    • i'm sorry but with all the respect, haku is not an official vocaloid.

i favor kaito, nekomura iroha, yuzuki yukari, sweet ann, big al, gumi, ia, megurine luka, lola and some others, ^u^

    • He isn't calld "Kaito Shion" he is just called "Kaito" also. "Meiko sakine" is also a fan made. the vocaloid is just called "Meiko".

Aside from Gakupo and Kaito none of those are my favourite. I like Gumi (V2 version), Iroha, Big Al, Tonio, Lola most of all... O_o

This is sort of the Vocaloid wikia and thers about 42 Vocaloids now....

  • Haku MUST be considered " official " ya know. I also hope she appears in vocaloid concerts, too :3

  • so, they call ring a miku clone while this "thing" exists.

i don't mind haku, but the fact that other voicebanks struggle so hard to get attention while she already has it, while not even having a voice (lolwut?)

    it's just not fair.

  • You know, Haku isn't so bad. Infact, she is good

  • haku and miku are both different personas, vocaloids etc., they have their own personality and whatever you say haku is haku and miku is miku so please stop saying that haku is a failed version of miku because to tell the truth haku sings better at most songs than miku.., just compare haku and mikus version of rolling girl and you will see the difference.,, the depth and the emotions

    • Most Haku asongs ARE Miku songs, most songs are either altered Miku vocals or failed Miku songs. The vocaloid library does not stop being Miku because you altered it. ^_-

    • well what you sa MAY be true but still miku lacks something that haku has and its her soul.., listen to anata no vayakiloid (originally anata no utahime) and try to remove your hatred to her if you have one and try to feel the song and the message of the song.., oh and btw i was once a solid miku fan but after realizing her soul through that song i was now a haku/miku fan.., beside what good is a coin without heads or tails if you know what i mean

    • The Vocaloids doesn't have official personalities. And Haku is derivate (fanmade) of Miku reconized by Crypton, and she is suppoused to be a failed version of Miku. Seriously you are in the Wiki of Vocaloid, in her page and you don't that she is a fanmade of Miku? It's seems that you don't read it the page, no to be rude.....But.....Seriously.

    • 92.23.95.105 was me so I'll reply this time in my user account.

112.203.16.152 Haku uses Miku's vocal, anata no vayakiloid is ot Haku singing its Miku, in a vocal that has been altered greatly to sound very different.

Everything you just said on Haku? Yeah... Your pretty much saying that for Miku since she was singing the song. You say you used to be a solid Miku fan until you heard Haku singing, but you didn't, you hearde Miku singing. Therefore to be a fan of Haku's "vocals" is still to be a fan of Miku's vocals. You have switched the face fo the Vocaloid but have not changed voicebanks, you are still listening to Miku and are still a Miku fan as such.

I hate all fanmades... Not Haku specific. This is the only fandom where fanmades can be more popular then real Vocaloids and I'm tired of explaining Haku is not a Vocaloid. Just as much as I tire of saying "There are 39 Vocaloids, not 6". But I still say it because it helps the fandom as a whole if you can clear up misgivings. :-/

    • (sigh) im tired of re explaining things.., its like this its not about haku coming from miku its about those who use hake to come her to life oh and btw the original is entitled anata no utahime not anata no voyakiloid besides if you want a depressing song would you use a cheerful miku hatsune?? or a much more depressed yowane haku??? and as for the personality i was talking about sometime ago its not their actual personality.., but the personality given by those who created them and those who used them.., its not about me being one sided but me also hearing their side.., because some people arent aware of how it feels to be disregarded and hated.., majority i guess hates haku for being created a failed miku and so on and so on but try to imagine if they are alive then try to put yourself into hakus place.., its painful to be hated by other people.., trust me cause i know just think.., they may not be alive they may be just a software and haku might just be fanmade.., but what if they were alive??? what if haku is you??? what would you feel??

    • apology for redundancy and repeated word i sometimes do get carried away.., no hard feelings im not angry nor mad just emotional

    • If I were a producer, I won't use Hatsune Miku. I'd use Miku Append, her dark, probably. Not Yowane Haku.

      At least, that's my POV.

I worked on CAFFEIN's page, same goes to Daigoman's page, I created those pages. And by looking at their works I'm well aware that the Yowane Haku's "songs" are disappearing. Heck, after 2011, I couldn't see CAFFEIN nor Yowane-P upload anything Yowane Haku related. Same goes to Sakine Meiko who belonged to Daigoman. (Then again, they DID upload something for Sakine's birthday a while back).

Currently the only living and notable producer I know to actually "create" songs using Yowane Haku is Owata-P. Akuno-P, maybe. But I don't look into his works very much 'cause I'm not interested.

But, hey, I'm not trying to pick up a fight here. ^~^ If you like Yowane Haku's tune, then it's up to you. I kinda get that feeling on liking something that not much people like / look down on. orz

I'm just a tad bit curious on how long Yowane Haku'll last if their original creators aren't doing much / even retire at this state. It's up to Crypton I guess.

    • i aint picking a fight either im just a supporter.., its just that even if the creators stopped creating as long as those who support still creates itll live on.., just as how we or they saved miku from dissapering frong the k pop fan issue., i dont know if its real but its the same with haku but only on a lesser scale.., heck if miku or the vocaloids got deleted.., it will be world war III for me >:3

  • I am tired of the misinformation. Both Haku and Neru DO have their own voices. In the Project Diva games they each have their own unique end of song quotes. What they lack is software.

    http://youtu.be/xO8EI5GyxxM

    • Sorry to dissappoint you, but Haku and Neru do not have official voices. Haku is considered Voyakloid, meaning failed version. Haku is Miku's failed version. Same with Akita. She a lower pitched version Rin. They are seen in Project Diva because they some of the most popular fan-made characters. (Along with Teto.)

    • I am well aware that they are fanmade characters. I am also aware they have no songs in Project Diva, they also do not have their own songs or software. However they DO have their own voices in Project Diva to say the "Sega" for the logo and their own unique end of song lines in their own voices. Ergo, they have voices, that are officially used by Crypton, but lack software.

    • I am also not saying she has a unique vocal provider. I am merely pointing on that she does have decided on voice in licesensed goods, even if it is for just short one-liners at the end of playing a song.

    • But even that is from setting Miku up to "fail."

    • They just used that voices especially for the game. But they don't have offical voices.

  • my favorite character in vocaloid are miku hatsune and rin because they are awsemone and cool

  • Haku is awesome she is real she was the first version of miku but then something happened and her data was erased. That's when they made miku. Haku does have a voice but since she was forgotten once miku was made her voice was gone too. Mothy made her song daughter of white which is also known as bystander on iTunes. All those outfits you see her in with the cut off shirt and all that are what fans created, not the real thing. Haku only has a place in the story of evil. Miku also has a response song to daughter of white called spirit of ELD. So don't go calling haku a fail or fake, she's a real vocaloid and people are wrong to judge her rudely. I dunno where the rumor that she was fake started, but it's a lie. Oh, mothy had to recreate her voice so that's why haku has a voice. Thank you for understanding.

    • I think you've read too much fan-fiction. O_O

    • Haku isn't even drawn by Kei, so you saying she was the first version of Miku doesn't make much sense. O.o

    • Um... Haku is a VOYAKILOID, NOT AN ACTUAL VOCALOID. She's not exactly a "fake," but she's not "real" either. And her creator, CAFFEIN, drew that outfit on her, so it's her real outfit. I'm not sure where you got all that from, but only about 1 thing was actually true...

    • .... For gods sake STOP getting your facts from youtube ... Haku is not an official vocaloid ... She's just a rip of miku ..and one of crypton MASCOTS ... She doesnt even follow the cv series

    • And plus ... What makes you think that mothy makes voicebanks?

    • Don't listen to them, I agree with you. I feel bad for Haku, being a really under-appreciated Vocaloid or Voyakiloid or whatever you want to call her. I like her voice too, I wish she'd appear in more PVs

    • i don't think that they were trying to offened you with the truth.

her voice provider is miku. she is miku in some sort of way. she already got more attention than real vocaloids. she's often mistaken for beeing one.

i bet that you haven't even heard of ia, yukari, the spanish or english loids, or any other v3 or v2 vocaloids that are NOT made by crypton.

      my god.

  • Actually Haku does have a voice

    • Haku doesn't have any vocall at all, some users use other Voclaoids to make a vocal for her, but otherwise she is just has a face-value.

edit: Also editing miku's vocal doesn't automatically make it Haku's vocal. Miku is always Miku even when you alter it.

  • I Love Haku , Even though her name means fail I say she isnt. She is my most favorite Utau so far..

  • A failure? No such thing! I like Haku and her voice, aint nothing wrong with it.

  • How come she gets alot of attention while not even having an offiacl va? She's often mistaken for beeing a vocaloid... She gets more attention than the real thing ... How come? ... I dislike her

    • I feel your pain.

    • In most fandoms the fans don't care about fan mades, I have no idea why the Voclaoid fan does.

    • I did not say that i dislike her for beeing fanmade ... But she steals alot of attention from the other vocaloids ... And some of her fans go like "oh my ... She is'nt a failure she's even better than that hight pitched rat miku" i usually ignore comments like these ... But c'mon haku IS miku ...... In some way

    • I know.

The voice setting up there is for "Hatsune Miku" to fail. Why bother making a song with a failed version of Hatsune Miku when you can go with high quality VBs like VY1 / VY2 :-/

      ~Stares at Owata-P~

    • I don't despise Haku getting attention, but I don't think she should get more attention than her voice provider. After all, without Miku, there wouldn't even be a Haku.

    • She shouldn't get more attention the the actual voicebanks ... Take lily for an example ... Now i'm not a big fan of her ... Even tho her v3 voicebank started to grow on me .... She barley even gets any attention ... And oftem mistaken for beeing a yellow luka.

    • Than*

    • God i have so many spelling mistakes ... Soz

    • its like this ok.., why do people patronize cheap products than original products.., im not naming haku as cheap and i like her but heres the thing if youve ever watched pandora hearts.., miku and haku is like alice and will of the abyss, for tales of the abyss miku and haku is like luke fon fabre and asch, and for naruto they are like naruto and sasuke.., two sides of the coin like and dark so dont blame us for liking haku because we like her.., our favorites are our business and as the saying goes mind your own business

    • I know man... It feels bad.

  • I love Haku, albinos are awesome :D
