Hatsune Miku VOCALOID2 Append English VOCALOID3 Light Vivid eVocaloid VOCALOID4 V4 English V4 Chinese | Piapro Studio | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the VOCALOID4 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID character then click here.

History[]

2015[]

On April 24, 2015, Wat tweeted about a VOCALOID4 update for Hatsune Miku and that it would have repaired phonemes to sound like her V2 voicebank and that other problems in her V3 would be fixed.[1][2]

On August 31, it was officially confirmed that Miku's V4 update would be a V4X title and a demo was released showcasing a voicebank called "Hatsune Miku Original". It was also revealed that Miku's V4X would also contain 2 E.V.E.C vocals, Soft and Power, though more E.V.E.C. vocals may be planned.

2016[]

On March 2, 2016, Wat reported that news on Miku V4X would increase from this month onwards.[3]

On April 15, "Solid Power"'s existence was verified.[4] On April 17, "Solid Power" began production.[5]

Wat tweeted that "Original Power" had a different quality compared to the Kagamine Power voicebanks as it remained "cute" and did not have the same tension caused by their power. Saki Fujita's voice produced good overtones.[6] On April 23, Wat reported that final checks of the Power voice were finished.[7]

In May, the webpage for Miku V4X was changed and it was revealed that she was releasing in the summer of 2016.[8] On May 12, Wat tweeted that Miku Power was about 90% complete.[9]

On June 11, Wat tweeted that Miku Dark's tuning was finishing up.[10] On the 17th, Wat stated that they were adjusting the "WHISPER" vocal for her which would be different than the "SWEET" one.[11] Wat also tweeted that the new voicebank components became 4 varieties: ORIGINAL - POWER, SOLID - POWER, SOFT - WHISPER, and DARK - WHISPER. These voicebanks would produce new pronunciations as a result of having different phonetic data from the standard voicebank.[12] Although the Japanese voicebanks were in 5 varieties, 4 of them (ORIGINAL, SOLID, SOFT, and DARK) were combined and carried new pronunciation. Wat noted that the standard VoiceColor was also included, however, these were a different system than normal.[13]

GENERAL USAGE[]

Product Information
Versions
Trial/Demo Vers?: Yes  Starter Available?: "VOCALOID5 Plus" promotion only[14]  App vers.?: Yes
Package details as noted:

The updated version of Hatsune Miku, in which the individual voicebanks are improved versions of the corresponding V3 voicebanks of the same names. It has slight improvements over the Kagamine Rin & Len V4x package and expands further adjustments made to E.V.E.C. It can be bought by itself or bundled with Hatsune Miku V4 English. However, the Hatsune Miku V4 Chinese voicebank is not included in any existing bundles with this release.

This package comes with Piapro Studio plug-in version. It was announced in August 2017 with the release of Hatsune Miku V4 Chinese that this vocal would have its own version of the Standalone Piapro Studio software. However, as of 1st Jan 2019 this version of Piapro Studio has failed to be released.[15]

The software comes with the Piapro Studio Edition of PreSonus's DAW "Studio One ARTIST"[16], which includes various vocal effects and other tools. This includes also a resource pack with 200 virtual instruments. The complete package of Piapro Studio and Studio One ARTIST means that anyone buying this release can get started in music straight away with no need to purpose any further software, and all will work together with each other without any problems. This bundle is included in both the normal and English bundled versions of the software.

Amazon also offered the following bundles:

  • "Sakura Musical Instruments" starter set: Came with the Hatsune Miku V4 English vocal as well. Included in the package was a mic and stand, as well as the UAS-366-SC unit. Also included was the KORG MIDI Keyboard "microKEY-25 Air", Stereo headphones, a music stand plus two microphone cables and popguard.[17]

This bundle was not intended for normal PC set up and were designed for a special set up. These offers were done as a promotion from DTM magazine.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • The vocals parameters are more effective overall and cleaner sounding.
  • It enjoys being mixed between 4K-9K equalization, meaning it can handle a variety of genres.[18]
  • Due to the popularity of the Miku voice and the previous incarnations, the Hatsune Miku V4x can feel a little "standard" for VOCALOID because Miku has become "The Vocaloid" of the software.[19]
  • The vocal is suitable for beginners still.[19]
  • The voice becomes a little less "Miku-like" as the voice becomes more solid.[19]
Software issues as noted:
  • The release feels "messy" at times.[19]
  • Her release did not heavily get impacted by the update as Megurine Luka V4X was when VOCALOID5 was released as she can be used within VOCALOID5 without issues. Her V4x release did not rely as heavily on E.V.E.C. or additional Piapro Studio functions like Megurine Luka V4x did. Users should still be aware of the current situation with Piapro Studio in regards to VOCALOID5.
Voicebank sample

MIKU V4Xβ

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

It is XSY capable.

  • In total, the package offers the equivalent of 20 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 25 voicebanks in total.

  • From Ver.4.3.0 of the Vocaloid engine, a XSY group "Miku V4x" was added to Vocaloid. All vocals within the "Miku V4x" group can XSY with each other. This vocal release is part of this group. If the User owns another vocal from the "Miku V4x" group, XSY between the vocals can occur.
    • The XSY group "Miku V4x" is the 3rd largest XSY group overall having a total of 12 voicebanks. If old versions that have since been re-released are removed, there are currently 7 unique voicebanks. These voicebanks are; "Original", "Soft", "Solid", "Dark", "Sweet", "Vivi" and "Light".
    • In total, the combined packages offer the equivalent of 132 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 144 voicebanks in total.
    • This is not taking into mind the impact of E.V.E.C. on vocal XSY combinations within VOCALOID4 itself.
  • Note that "GWL" does not become viable for use with any V3 vocals used as the primarily vocal. This should be considered when using any vocal for XSY within the "Miku V4x" group from V3.
  • XSY is only possible with the full VOCALOID4 software.
  • Note that unlike many other voicebank updates such as Megpoid V4, the voicebanks have undergone slight changes compared to their past versions. Thus, XSY between "Hatsune Miku V3 Original" and "Hatsune Miku V4x Original" produces a slight change in comparison to "V3 Megpoid - Native" and "Megpoid V4 Native" which has very little change in comparison.

  • E.V.E.C. as noted:

    In regards to E.V.E.C

    • The only Voice colours are "Power" and "Soft". Like with the Kagamine Rin & Len V4X package it focuses on colouring tones with expression, instead of expression with tones like Megurine Luka V4X did.
    • The "Pronunciation Extension Function" has been expanded allowing for softer consonant impact in addition to the strong consonant impact. This allows for greater expression than the Kagamine Rin & Len V4x package offered. Miku's voice saw many new recordings for this function as a result.

ORIGINAL is an update of the Hatsune Miku V3 Original voicebank and it is meant to faithfully recreate the tone of her VOCALOID2 vocal. The Vocal is precise and cute sounding.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • GWL added.
    • Compared to the previous VOCALOID3 version, "Original" has a larger minimum and maximum tempo range allowing it to do more genres of slower and faster music.
    • In this version it acts as the mid-pronunciation sitting between "Soft" and "Solid".
    Software issues as noted:
    • Though not particularly loud, her samples contain a slight noise loop. Though this is no where near as big of an issue as past Vocaloids such as SONiKA and is barely notable.

    Hatsune Miku V4X Original EVEC

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Original", "Soft" and "Solid" are 3 different levels of clarity or softness between them and any of these 3 can act as the main starting point of a song, hence why all 3 have access to EVEC in addition to XSY. However, "Original" is the main vocal of Hatsune Miku and the main focus of XSY and EVEC as a result, in short it is the default voice for Users and Producers to begin with. But regardless, Miku has more choices of a starting point in XSY then either the Megurine Luka V4x or Kagamine Rin/Len V4x releases for this reason; 1 more then Luka and 2 more then either Len or Rin. "Dark" and "Sweet" are expression tones meant to be used on "Original", "Soft" and "Solid" to add emotion to the Hatsune Miku vocal via the secondary XSY function.

    The paths of expression therefore for "Original" are;

    • XSY ("Sweet" x "Original") ⇄ "Original" ⇄ XSY ("Original" x "Dark")
    • "Sweet" ⇄ XSY ("Sweet" x "Original") ⇄ "Original" ⇄ XSY ("Original" x "Dark") ⇄ "Dark"

Original is also the "middle" prounication and the "go between" for songs that, rather then displaying more emotional expression, require more verbal expression, in other words more precision of pronounication. Using XSY "Original" can be used to smoothly switch between "Solid" and "Soft".

    The path of expression for this bridgeing between "Solid" and "Soft" is;

    • XSY ("Solid" x "Original") ⇄ "Original" ⇄ XSY ("Original" x "Soft")
      • Partial expression
    • "Solid" ⇄ XSY ("Solid" x "Original") ⇄ "Original" ⇄ XSY ("Original" x "Soft") ⇄ "Soft"
      • The fully committed path.

The ability to switch between control of tones needed for emotion expression and precision for verbal expression, made the XSY function of the Hatsune Miku V4X voice the most varied of the v4X releases. It is the most complex of the voices as a result. In both examples "Original" offers the best bridgeing vocal due to it having the most "Hatsune Miku" traits of all the 5 voicebanks.

    E.V.E.C. as noted:
    • E.V.E.C capabilities "Power" and "Soft" allow improved expression.

    Product Information

    Package details as noted:

Update of Hatsune Miku V3 Soft. It is a cute lady-like vocal.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • GWL added.
    • Compared to the previous VOCALOID3 version, "Soft" has a larger minimum and maximum tempo range allowing it to do more genres of slower and faster music.
    • This is the softest of the 3 pronunciation voicebanks in the package, being softer then "Original" and much softer then "Solid".

    Hatsune Miku V4X Soft EVEC

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Original", "Soft" and "Solid" are 3 different levels of clarity or softness between them and any of these 3 can act as the main starting point of a song, hence why all 3 have access to EVEC in addition to XSY. "Soft" is has the more loose sounding phonetics and is designed for heavily expressive and emotional songs and more easily is influenced by "Sweet" and "Dark".

    The paths of expression therefore for "Soft" are;

    • XSY ("Sweet" x "Soft") ⇄ "Soft" ⇄ XSY ("Soft" x "Dark")
    • "Sweet" ⇄ XSY ("Sweet" x "Soft") ⇄ "Soft" ⇄ XSY ("Soft" x "Dark") ⇄ "Dark"
    E.V.E.C. as noted:
    • E.V.E.C capabilities "Power" and "Soft" allow improved expression.
    • If this vocal is used with "Soft" EVEC colour and the EVEC Pronunciation Extension "Soft Pronunciation", she should be able to fully whisper. However, this is not always a HQ result.

Update of Hatsune Miku V3 Solid. The vocal is based on tension.

    Vocal traits as noted:
    • GWL added.
    • This is the hardest sounding of the 3 pronunciation vocals, with more solid sounds then "Original" and much harder sound still over "Soft".

    Voicebank sample

    Hatsune Miku V4X Solid EVEC

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

"Original", "Soft" and "Solid" are 3 different levels of clarity or softness between them and any of these 3 can act as the main starting point of a song, hence why all 3 have access to EVEC in addition to XSY. "Solid" is the least expressive of the vocals and is designed to maintain clarity in a song. Adding other voicebank XSY to it will add more expression to it, but it remains the most firmer sounding of the 3 main voicebanks.

    The paths of expression therefore for "Soft" are;

    • XSY ("Sweet" x "Solid") ⇄ "Solid" ⇄ XSY ("Solid" x "Dark")
    • "Sweet" ⇄ XSY ("Sweet" x "Solid") ⇄ "Solid" ⇄ XSY ("Solid" x "Dark") ⇄ "Dark"
    E.V.E.C. as noted:
    • E.V.E.C capabilities "Power" and "Soft" colours allow improved expression.
    • If this vocal is used with "Power" EVEC colour and the EVEC Pronunciation Extension "Strong Pronunciation", she should be able to shout. However, this is not always a HQ result.

    Voicebank sample

    Hatsune Miku V4X Dark

    Cross-Synthesis as noted:

In XSY, "Dark" is used to add more gloom sounding tones to "Original", "Solid" and "Soft". It has an expressive role in XSY as a result. "Dark" is very expressive even compared to "Sweet" at times and is used add more heartfelt or sorrowful sounding tones to songs.

In XSY, "Sweet" is used to add more cheerful and small sounding tones to "Original", "Solid" and "Soft", adding a tone of childishness to the Hatsune Miku V4x vocal. It has an expressive role in XSY as a result. It is meant to add perikness and joyful tones to the other voicebanks.
