Vocaloid has inspired or been linked to a number of internet related memes. Most Internet Memes related to Vocaloid are linked to songs.

Imaichi-tan / いまいち萌えない娘Edit

Was a character released in a job-placement ad by a local press. The character appeared alongside 3 questions asking applicants to identify how the character was lacking in moe. She was dubbed "lacking-in-moe-girl" (いまいち萌えない娘, “Imaichi Moenai Ko”) amongst several other names by Japanese fans and became a popular hit character.

She has several Vocaloid related songs including “Lacking-in-moe-girl” and “I’m lacking in something”, there was also a MMD model produced for her.

Nyan Cat / Pop Tart CatEdit

Is a popular Internet Meme that sprung from the song "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" sung by Hatsune Miku and produced by daniwellP. The actual song seen in the video, however, is sung by the UTAU Momone Momo. The artwork is by prguitarman.

Po Pi Po - ぽっぴっぽーEdit

A song where Miku sings about Vegetable Juice, the dance became a popular internet Meme.

Sweet Ann BoxartEdit

The boxart was styled on mid-20th century posters and Sweet Ann was based on the Bride of Frankenstein. However, Sweet Ann's boxart meme was born out of the cultural differences between Japan and Europe and few understood the artwork presented in front of them. The original Sweet Ann boxart was deemed "Nightmare fuel" in Japan and became the subject of a number of parodies and jokes, conceiveing her boxart as more sinister then it was intended to be. When she was released, a number of Nico Nico users jumped at the opportunity to buy Sweet Ann in order to make fun of her odd looking boxart. This produced a joke on Nico, in which Sweet Ann is made to shoot beams from her eyes. Still, because of the popularity of the Japanese Vocaloids, this influenced the English Vocaloid fans, who also took to seeing the boxart in the same light. because of the contrast between the two styles of western and Japanese Vocaloids.

As a note, in the early days before Miku's popularity, Sweet Ann was not seen in this light and the boxart had been acceptable. PowerFX has since changed the style of Vocaloid boxart, including swapping Big Al's similar boxart for a more anime-influenced style. The tradition of making their Vocaloids based on monsters, however, continues.

Item wars/Mascot MemesEdit

The "Item War" (持ち物戦争, Mochimono Sensou) was a event that used to be a regular occurance amongst the Vocaloids, wherein every new Vocaloid was assigned an item. They began with Hatsune Miku in "Hachune Miku" in the song Ievan Polkka and ended with the introduction of Tako Luka. However, the tradition was started with the occurance of Kaito and his rediscovery story which established Ice cream as his popular item. This led to other attempts to make internet memes for the remaining Vocaloids to establish them with certain items, giving birth to the "Item War" wherein items were attempted to be encouraged to become official, leading to arguments and debates. Both Japanese and English Vocaloids had proposed items, though particularly in the English Vocaloids case only "Big Al + Penguin" managed to successfully see great usage.

Several other items have been popular for Vocaloids such as Gakupo and an eggplant and Big Al and a penguin. However, a long list of items was proposed and accepted by fans. To date most items that were once proposed now are rarely or never used for the Vocaloid it was linked with. However, until these items are featured with their Vocaloids offically in merchandise, they are not counted as established items, even with a strong backng of the fandom. Also, while Sonika did reference the item war going on for her, no single item became established nor did she confirm anything herself.

UTAU and fanloids often have items still despite most of the traditions of Vocaloid fandom having been abandoned.

Officially Accepted ItemsEdit

While most items mean nothing and have not been adopted, a few Studios have acknowledged some items;

Crypton Future Media

• Kaito; Ice Cream - due a popular meme related to his rediscovery, the ice cream has been featured in merchandise, such as the Nendoroid figurine.
• Hatsune Miku; Spring Onion - often mistake for a leek. This is the most common meme item to be featured of any Vocaloid and is considered the first of the item wars character items. Has been seen in many of her figurines.
• Kagamine Rin/Len; Road Roller - Released in a set of Nendoroid petite were two figurines of Rin and Len in Road rollers, with Len's being orange and Rin's yellow.
• Megurine Luka; Tuna /Tako Luka - Tako Luka was a petite model that was sold with the Luka Nendoroid figurine, it also received a series of plush dolls and mobile phone charms. Also, her Figma model had a large model of a tuna, her other popular item Meme.
• Spurned on by the items held by Hatsune Miku and Kaito, it became popular to feature Meiko with One Cup Ozeki (Sake). Her Nendorid figurine contains props that reference this.

Internet co., Ltd.

• Lily; Avex released several plushes of Lily, one set referenced her Railway crossing sign and Beememes.
• Kamui Gakupo had a Eggplant featured in his Nendoroid figurine, particularly the version of it with legs.
• Gumi's nendoroid figurine has a Carrot with it.

Zero-G

• Tonio; Sonika officially established the Martini as Tonio's item by making a joke about him refusing to go near any liquid substance not even partly martini based. She also made other jokes about this too.

Note; due to issues with the previous list on the wikia and how others tried to use it to put forward their own opinions onto newer Vocaloids on what they should be, the wikia only lists those which have been officially acknowledge by the studios.
