Since 2004, several concerts or live performances have taken place using Vocaloids. Concerts today features the Vocaloid projected onto a screen to make it seen like they are there in person. On the stage with them is a live band as well as back-up dancers in some cases.

On March 9, 2010, Miku's first solo live performance titled "Miku no Hi Kanshasai 39's Giving Day" was opened at the Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba, Tokyo.[7][8] The tour was run as part of promotions for Sega's Hatsune Miku: Project Diva video game in March 2010.[9] She was accompanied by Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len and Megurine Luka.

Gumi and Gakupo made special appearances in the 2010 new year celebration event known as King Run Anison Red and White.The songs they covered were; アニソン紅白2010 M-32[Love Letter]神威がくぽ(がくっぽいど) "Love Letter" covered by Gakupo originally from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam", which had originally been sung by Gackt and アニソン紅白2010 M-33[星間飛行]GUMI(メグッポイド) "Interstellar Flight" covered by Gumi from "Macross Frontier", which had originally been sung by Megumi Nakajima. Their appearance was strictly a one off event.[10][11]

Miku's 2nd Concert titled "Hatsune Miku's Live Party 2011 39's Live in Tokyo" took place on the same venue in Zepp Tokyo, Odaiba, Tokyo. The Tour was sponsored by 5pb., and was the first concert to be broadcasted at selected theaters throughout Japan. [12] She was accompanied by Rin, Len and Luka.

Miku's first concert performance in the United States was held in NOKIA theatre in Los Angeles, California, during the Anime Expo 2011 event. Also performing live were Rin, Len and Luka.

A replay of the same concert that took place in Odaiba took place in Sapporo Hokkaido, Miku's Hometown under the name Hatsune Miku's Live Party 2011 39's Live in Sapporo. It had been broadcasted in the same theaters throughout Japan with 2 additional theaters overseas in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but it did not broadcast on NND.[13]

Following the success of The Sapporo Concert, Various Screenings of the said concert took place at many cities in the US, England, Thailand, Brazil and France in theaters showcasing the Sapporo Concert on different dates, with a Special Concert in Singapore taking place on November 11. This was done as part of selling the Mikupa DVD Bluray Versions of the Tokyo and Sapporo Concerts. [14][15][16]

Gumi, Akikoroid-chan, VY1v3, Tone Rion and Aoki Lapis appeared in a concert together in Japan dancing on stage. Though other concerts have been done for Vocaloid, this is the first offical "3D" concert, previously all concerts had been done with 2D technology. This concert allowed Vocaloids to dance with real life dancers on stage for the fist time.[17][18]

MikuPa 2012(初音ミクライブパーティー2012(ミクパ♪)「Miku no Hi Dai-Kanshasai」). It featured graphics of that of Mikupa and the 2010 graphics. The event took place at Tokyo Dome City Hall. [19]

SeeU appeared on stage for the first time. She was part of a Korean music show called "인기가요 (Inkigayo)" singing with GLAM, a Korean music group (Dahee, one of the members, is the voice provider for SeeU). The event was produced and broadcasted by SBS. SeeU's animation was made by Tourbox.[20]

As part of the 39 CARAVAN's event happening at Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Yokohama Bay called "ANGEL Project presents -HATSUNE Appearance -", Miku appeared on stage as a MMD model everyday from September 13th - 23rd, 2012.[21]

Once again in Yokohama Bay, as part of Miku's 5th Anniversary and promoting her newest videogame: Project DIVA f, Miku was projected onto a "water stage". The whole concert was live streamed on Nico and later uploaded too. The event is called "夏の終わりの39祭り" (39 Festival at the End of Summer).[22]

"MIKUPA♪", Miku's third overseas concert, took place in Hong Kong on October 2nd, 2012, and Taiwan on October 6th, 2012. She was accompanied by Rin, Len and Luka. There were two performances at both locations, day- and nighttime.[23] The Taiwan evening concert was streamed on Tokyo MX. Unlike a Nico stream, there were commercial breaks and the whole concert did not air.[24]

In collaboration with electronic music pioneer Isao Tomita, Miku appeared on stage as the main singer. This was held at Tokyo City Opera Hall. His new piece Ihatov Symphony, which expresses the world of Kenji Miyazawa’s novel, will be performed by Japan Philharmonic Orchestra with a conductor Naoto Otomo. Miku will appear on stage as 3D image and sing and dance in time to music.[25]

"THE END" is a new project featuring Miku. It is an opera with Vocaloids by Keiichiro Shibuya and Toshiki Okada. It will be held at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media in Japan.[26] Miku's costume for the show will be a Louis Vuitton dress designed by Marc Jacobs Intl team.[27]

On February 9 and 10, 2013, Miku will have another concert called "初音ミク ライブパーティー 2013 in Sapporo 「ミクパ♪」 ("Hatsune Miku Live Party 2013 in Sapporo 'MikuPa♪'". A two day concert in Sapporo, Japan, during the Snow Miku festival. MEIKO and KAITO will make an appearance as well.[30][31]

This Megpoid English launch event will take place at NEW PEOPLE, San Francisco. The all-day event will commence at 12:00 noon, and will offer a variety of dance and Vocaloid performances, free Megpoid Vocaloid software workshops, demos, and other activities that will run thru 6:00 PM.[32]

This is the fourth year in a row a concert will take place on March 9. The event, titled "初音ミク ライブパーティー 2013 in Kansai(ミクパ♪) (Hatsune Miku Live Party 2013 in Kansai (MikuPa♪) -39's Spring the 3rd Synthesis-" will be held in the Wakayama Prefecture, in Kansai, at the Wakayama Big Whale. As this is a collaboration with WOWOW, the show will also be broadcast live over WOWOW’s satellite channel. This is the first time an official Miku concert has been held in the Kansai region of Japan; previous concerts have been held in Tokyo (which is in the Kantou region of Japan) and Sapporo (which is in Hokkaido). It is expected to last for three hours.[33][34][35]

The very first "live" concert done with a Vocaloid used Zero-G's Miriam. The concert was held in Novosibirsk, Russia, in the Main Concert Hall of State Philharmony. This 4-hour event was called "Polyphony Studio 5th Anniversary Concert" and featured well known Russian bands, choirs, orchestras as well as Miriam. She performed "Sad Mondays", originally by Dr. Ravi E. Dattatreya, with live musicians. She was not projected onto the stage in any shape or form, instead Ekaterina Basalaeva and Olga Sheina were dancing during her performance.[36]

This event, titled "Miku, Beyond the Character: The Cutting Edge of Miku Miku Dance Software", was the first live performance with AniMiku. It was held at MIT. The event was broadcast over Nico Nico Douga and various other TV station from Japan. Ryotaro Mihara, Masataka-P and Ian Condry were also present. The presentation includes a demonstration of a prototype projection of Miku live, and a screening of an abridged version of MikuNoPolis. It was followed by a keynote lecture by Hiroyuki Itoh (president and CEO of Crypton) titled "Miku, Virtual Idol, as Media Platform: Transforming Media Creativity".[43][44][45]
