Since 2004, several concerts or live performances have taken place using VOCALOID software. Concerts today feature a VOCALOID vocalist projected onto a screen to make it seem like they are there in person. On the stage with them is a live band as well as back-up dancers in some cases.

On March 9, 2010, Miku's first solo live performance titled "Miku no Hi Kanshasai 39's Giving Day" was opened at the Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba, Tokyo. [7][8] The tour was run as part of promotions for Sega's Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- video game in March 2010. [9]

The events leading up to this one tie into Hatsune Miku being used to advertise the Toyota Corolla Campaign. In addition to her live concert, Miku was Anime Expo’s first 'Virtual Guest of Honor'. On the 26th of May all 3,500 tickets sold out, making Miku the first performer to sell out such a number compared to the singers booked for the month.

This concert was formerly referred to as MikuFes 2011 before being retitled MIKUNOPOLIS in LOS ANGELES -Happy to meet you! I'm HATSUNE MIKU-. [13][14]

It had been broadcast in the same theaters throughout Japan with 2 additional theaters overseas in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but it did not broadcast on NND. [15]

Following the success of the Sapporo concert, various screenings of the said concert took place at many cities in the US, England, Thailand, Brazil and France in theaters showcasing the Sapporo concert on different dates, with a special concert in Singapore taking place on November 11. This was done as part of selling the Mikupa DVD Blu-ray versions of the Tokyo and Sapporo concerts. [16][17][18]

GUMI, Akikoroid-chan, VY1v3, Tone Rion and Aoki Lapis appeared in a concert together in Japan dancing on stage. Though other concerts have been done for Vocaloid, this is the first offical "3D" concert, previously all concerts had been done with 2D technology. This concert allowed Vocaloids to dance with real life dancers on stage for the fist time. [19][20]

Once again in Yokohama Bay, as part of Miku's 5th Anniversary and promoting her newest videogame: -Project DIVA- f, Miku was projected onto a "water stage". The whole concert was live streamed on Nico and later uploaded too. The event is called "夏の終わりの39祭り" (39 Festival at the End of Summer). [24]

"Hatsune Miku Live Party 2012", Miku's third overseas concert, took place in Hong Kong on October 2nd, 2012, and Taiwan on October 6th, 2012. She was accompanied by Rin, Len and Luka. There were two performances at both locations, day and nighttime. [26] The Taiwan evening concert was streamed on Tokyo MX. Unlike a Nico stream, there were commercial breaks and the whole concert did not air. [27]

His new piece Ihatov Symphony, which expresses the world of Kenji Miyazawa’s novel, will be performed by Japan Philharmonic Orchestra with a conductor Naoto Otomo. This was the fourth year in a row a concert took place on March 9. The event, titled "初音ミク ライブパーティー 2013 in Kansai(ミクパ♪) (Hatsune Miku Live Party 2013 in Kansai (MikuPa♪) -39's Spring the 3rd Synthesis-" was held in the Wakayama Prefecture, in Kansai, at the Wakayama Big Whale. As this was a collaboration with WOWOW, the show was also broadcast live over WOWOW’s satellite channel. This was the first time an official Miku concert was held in the Kansai region of Japan; previous concerts have been held in Tokyo (which is in the Kantou region of Japan) and Sapporo (which is in Hokkaido). It lasted for three hours. [36][37][38]

THE END is a modern opera by Keiichiro Shibuya and Toshiki Okada, starring Hatsune Miku as the main character, through a projection on multiple screens on stage. It was held at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media. Miku's costume for the show was a Louis Vuitton dress designed by Marc Jacobs Intl team. A full scale Miku statue was also exposed.

This opera is a work in its own right and is in no way connected to the usual VOCALOID lives. It is an audiovisual work dealing with questions such as, "Is Miku alive? Is it a separate being and can it die? Can an imaginary character know death? What connection does it have to users and fans?"and many other issues, all in a dark atmosphere. However, those questions are not only related to VOCALOID or Miku, but to virtual/imaginary character in general. THE END (JAPAN)'s differences from the FRANCE performance are the promotional poster and some details during the live show. [39]
