Luo Tianyi VOCALOID3 VOCALOID4 V4 Japanese

This is an article about the Luo Tianyi Japanese software for the VOCALOID4 engine.

HistoryEdit

Luo Tianyi Japanese was originally intended for the VOCALOID3 engine and was to be developed by Bplats, Inc. in collaboration with Shanghai HENIAN Information Technology Co. Ltd..

2012Edit

On April 2, 2012, Shan Xin confirmed that she had just finished her second day of recording the voicebank and mentioned that she did an interview with Japanese reporters.[1] According to her report, she recorded in the "Japanese way" which led to a fan asking if it would be a Japanese or Chinese voicebank. Shan Xin responded by stating to wait for the announcement.[2]

On July 11, VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT released a special video that showed all of Luo Tianyi's Chinese demos. Later, it was revealed that she would also have a Japanese voicebank expected to release in October. This had since been pushed back.

On July 16, Shan Xin mentioned that the Japanese voicebank would be released that Autumn.[3]

2013Edit

Tianyi's Japanese voicebank was not yet finished at the time of YANHE's development, however, Shanghai HENIAN hoped to have her released soon. Later in November 2013, it was confirmed that the vocal was cancelled.[4][5]

In addition to this, jarryestel, a former member of SHN, stated that one of the reasons for the cancellation of Tianyi's Japanese voicebank was due to an issue between Japan and China during 2012, particularly over the ownership of Diaoyu Island/Senkaku Islands. This lead to Shanghai HENIAN cancelling the Japanese voicebank since the relationship of the countries were conflicting and could negatively affect the sales of the voicebank. To add on, many Japanese companies were pulling their employees back to Japan for their safety, and therefore projects were never finished, possibly including Tianyi Japanese. Due to this occurring too quickly, the reason for the cancellation was never revealed properly.[6][7]

2017Edit

On June 17, 2017, Tianyi's V4 voicebanks were used at the Vsinger Live concert and reintroduced the existence of a Japanese voicebank for her. The Japanese voicebank was used to perform a cover of "Gokuraku Joudo". In addition, she performed with Aya Uchida and they sang "Floating Heart" and "Sweet Dreamer", both songs originally featuring Aya. On June 19, SHN confirmed that the Japanese voicebank was back in production for VOCALOID4 and the boxarts for both languages were revealed. Each boxart featured Tianyi in different designs drawn by TID.[8]

On October 1, Luo Tianyi V4 was made available for pre-order, but there was no confirmation as to when the Japanese voicebank would be released. Rosary later tweeted that Tianyi Japanese was taking more time to develop.[9]

On November 13, Rosary reported that a Japanese demo was stable.[10]

2018Edit

On April 16, 2018, an official website, twitter account, YouTube account, Facebook account, and SoundCloud account were launched for Tianyi Japanese. According to the Weibo account's announcement post, her Japanese package would include 2 voicebanks: Normal and Sweet. Tianyi Japanese was confirmed to be sampled from two voice providers: Shan Xin and Kano, a Japanese Utaite.[11] It was also announced that the Japanese package would be available for preorder on April 23.[12] On Tianyi Japanese's official website, it was confirmed that the package was scheduled to release on May 21, 2018 as digital and physical copies. The physical copies from Shanghai HENIAN's Mu-Mo shop also offered an original A3-sized poster as a bonus.[13] The physical copy from Shanghai HENIAN's taobao shop would not ship until May 28.[14]

Users reported that Luo Tianyi V4 Japanese was released early on May 18.[15][16]

Cross-Synthesis notes:

In total the package offers the equivalent of 2 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 4 voicebanks in total.

Software issues as noted:
  • Due to being sampled from two different voice providers, Tianyi's Japanese voicebanks may have distinct tones compared to the Mandarin counterparts. There may be points where the voice of Tianyi doesn't faithfully match between the two languages when Chinese and either Japanese voicebanks are used together.
