SeeU VOCALOID3 English

This article is about the SeeU software for the VOCALOID3 engine.

On June 6, 2011, a demo called I=Fantasy that was produced by Bang Shi Hyuk (a.k.a. Hitman Bang), was introduced during the VOCALOID3 announcement.[1] On August 30, her name and appearance was revealed.

Before her release, SBS A&T uploaded a video on November 8, 2011 of various idols (Bang Shi Hyuk, Jeong Jinwoon (2AM), Jo Kwon (2AM), David Oh, Lim Jeong Hee, and U-Kiss) introducing and supporting SeeU's release.

Pre-orders for SeeU took place on October 14, 2011 and a community called CreCrew was opened. She was released on the 21st of the same month. In Japan, SeeU was released on December 16, 2011, the sale in Japan ended on March 1, 2013.

Despite the controversy SV01 SeeU can still be purchased from CreCrew Goods website.[2]

Product Information
Package details
SeeU is a bilingual VOCALOID that sings in both Korean and Japanese. Her vocal is sometimes found to be 'cute' and, since it was voiced by a teenage singer, one of the more accurate VOCALOIDs to represent teenage vocal
Vocal traits as noted:
  • Both her Korean and Japanese vocals at the time housed the highest known optimum vocal range released for VOCALOID3, their status was unchallenged for much of the VOCALOID3 engines development.
  • At a optimum range of #C5, SeeU has the second highest vocal range of VOCALOID3, beaten by Chika and kokone who jointly hold the highest optimum range at #D5.

Individual VocalsEdit

Product Information

Package details
SeeU's Korean vocal.
Vocal traits as noted:
  • Her Korean voicebank has a slightly deeper and more powerful voice than her Japanese voicebank.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • Several English phonemes not native to Korean were added, as SBS noted many Korean sounds are similar or the same in English so this allows her to recreate a certain level of "English" using her Korean voicebank (such as the 'f' consonant [f],the 'v' consonant [v] and the 's' consonant [z], all of which cannot be pronounced in the Korean language).[3]
  • SeeU's voicebank has some issues sounding out certain consonants such as ㄹ(r) and ㅈ(c). Her pronunciation of ㄹ varies in that in may sound too trilled (like a rolled Spanish R) or not distinguishable enough depending on the vowels around it. Her pronunciation of ㅈ is too muffled and difficult to work around using only her Korean voicebank.
Software issues as noted:
  • Slight changes to her vibrato settings may cause her to sound off pitch, which can be fixed by either manually drawing vibrato using the PIT parameter instead of using the regular vibrato system, or using third party software such as Autotune or Melodyne.
  • Despite the inclusion of extra English phonetics, while results are understandable they are often low quality. At best results are choppy and sounds are heavily accented.

Product Information
  Genre: J-Pop, Pop Ballad  Tempo: 60 ~ 170BPM  Range: C3 ~ C5
Package details
The Japanese vocal. She has a slight Korean accent in her pronunciation.
Vocal traits as noted:
  • Her Japanese voicebank has a slightly lighter and sweeter voice than her Korean voicebank.
Phonetic notes as noted:
  • Her pronunciation of [s] is slightly aspirated.
  • Her pronunciation of the sequence [ts M] ( tsu) has a weak t, causing it to more sound like [s M] ( su) respectively.
  • Her mid vowels may sound more tense or closed than they should. She has difficulty pronouncing the sequence [w o], which however is no longer present in Standard Japanese pronunciation.
  • Her pronunciation of [4] has similar issues to her pronunciation of ㄹ in her Korean voicebank, being either too weak or too trilled.
  • Her pronunciation of fricative and affricate consonants (s, z, ts, j, and ch) has a Korean accent in which they are pronounced quickly and are slightly lisped.
  • If a note set that includes a "-" filler phoneme is too short, she will skip the "-" phoneme entirely. This is an issue she shares with SF-A2 miki
