History[]
On June 6, 2011, a demo called I=Fantasy that was produced by Bang Shi Hyuk (a.k.a. Hitman Bang), was introduced during the VOCALOID3 announcement.[1] On August 30, her name and appearance was revealed.
Before her release, SBS A&T uploaded a video on November 8, 2011 of various idols (Bang Shi Hyuk, Jeong Jinwoon (2AM), Jo Kwon (2AM), David Oh, Lim Jeong Hee, and U-Kiss) introducing and supporting SeeU's release.
Pre-orders for SeeU took place on October 14, 2011 and a community called CreCrew was opened. She was released on the 21st of the same month. In Japan, SeeU was released on December 16, 2011, the sale in Japan ended on March 1, 2013.
Despite the controversy SV01 SeeU was still able to be purchased from CreCrew Goods website[2] until its final closure in early 2017. As of late August 2017, she is available for purchase on the site Character Planet as a download, a physical release, a bundle with UNI (dubbed the 'SeeUNI Library Set'), and a VOCALOID4 Starter Pack with UNI (dubbed the 'SeeUNI Starter Pack'). There was a promotional sale to commemorate her official birthday and release, which will run from August 23, to September 6.
2023[]
On September 22, 2023, ST MEDiA Co., Ltd. hosted a livestream to discuss new information. Regarding SeeU, there were still SBS A&T employees who were still fond of her and would like to work on her again, but the executives disapproved as they believed that it would not be profitable. SBS A&T still owned the rights to SeeU fully and was the final decisionmaker in regards to anything related to her. ST MEDiA considered purchasing her license from SBS A&T, but the individuals who were worked on her were hurt, so it was not possible as ST MEDiA felt it would be disrespectful to do. In addition, the idea of replacing SeeU's voice provider was also difficult. Instead, it was decided to "stop dreaming" about a SeeU update or remake as it was impossible without SBS A&T's permission.
In regards to SeeU's stocking issues, it was confirmed that she only had the stock number from her original launch. Once they were sold out, there was nothing left, though the Japanese editions were still available. There was a Chinese company in 2020 who had purchased new SeeU serial codes and intended to sell her with a Chinese edition packaging, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this never came to fruition. It was confirmed that there were 400 SeeU serial codes leftover from that batch, and after they sell out, it was over for SeeU. The last 400 codes would be potentially sold as a packaged version. The current plan was to update the packaging design, in addition to SeeU herself, so it could be treated as a commemorative release. This was planned to be a possible crowdfunding campaign later in the year, likely October, and any leftover boxes after the crowdfund would be sold online. SeeU's design would be modernized as the company felt that it would be difficult to 3D model, but the changes would not be too major, such as a different hairstyle. It was confirmed that KKUEM might not return as the illustrator due to a scheduling conflict. Despite that these final codes would mark the end of SeeU as a voice library and that there were no plans in selling SeeU as a digital download, ST MEDiA still wanted to continue in promoting her character. It was also mentioned that there was no stopping users from turning SeeU into an AI voice library or dataset for personal use.[3][4][5]
