Luka's profile page Edit

Hello, I wanted to know what would be the best way to phrase this introduction. Some people view it as Crypton giving Luka a personality.

I view it as a vocal characteristic, and I just noticed this after an edit on the Answer Wiki asking about character stories and personalities. This activity is more common with Vocaloid 3 than Vocaloid 2.
バーチャル・シンガー『巡音ルカ』は、声優「浅川 悠」さんが演じるクールでちょっぴりミステリアスなキャラクター・ボイスを元に造り上げられた、ボーカル・アンドロイド=VOCALOID(ボーカロイド)です。

Literal translation:
The virtual singer Megurine Luka is the vocal android VOCALOID which was developed from the cool and a little mysterious vocal the voice actress Yu Asakawa voiceovered.
Natural translation:
The virtual singer Megurine Luka is a vocal android VOCALOID. Voice actress Yu Asakawa provided the cool and a little mysterious vocal. Damesukekun (talk) 06:21, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, this has helped. -- Bunai82 (talk) 06:37, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
Its one of those little bits that's been like this since 2009 Bunai. Since no one has questioned the translation (ever) its remained in place. Consider that when I came here, up until this year, Miku had little on her development form the early days and they even left off her demos... We started working from half-finished information, and we've had to build on things. now with so much focused on current stuff, the older stuff is slowly getting buried. Finding it before something happens to it is a nightmare.
We've just in the last few months seen the information on Miriam's concert go-bye-bye since the website it was one no longer exists. Even on the Macne wikia, just as I'm starting to consider how to get things translated, they retire the original Act2 website page for Nana and co. And, as we approach the eventual retirement of Vocaloid we're going to swiftly 'loose that information. :-/ One-Winged Hawk (talk) 18:07, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

I know... Edit

Having dealt with the joys of translators and translations for a very long time, finding 1 good translator is hard. I feel guilty if I rely on always begging one translator for the same things all the time as it is, and encouraging good practices is always important. I know when I first came to the wikia, I wanted to push things, bring attention things that were being ignored, one way or another tackling things often does bring into itself problems.

Its also pretty much the same as picking up a vocaloid and not knowing how to use it correctly, I've had arguments over this too. A lot of the vocaloids here in the west buy them because... How to put this... They want the "soul" of the vocaloid for themselves, but once they have them, its literally just a empty shell, it becomes a doll. They have no idea how to use the vocaloid well. Again, this is hard, I've tried to promote schooling in music to at least back that part up. But your right, just as schools can only teach you certain things on the Japanese language, ditto is the same for music. :-/

At the end of the day, some folks just seem to not like the idea of their bubble popping, but if your on the wrong list, shouldn't it push you to push your limits and do better? That's the way I see it at least, it promotes in a way people to get on with trying to actually learn good Japanese language skills rather then leaving people guessing.

I don't know how to describe some peoples reactions, though that Avatar movie I saw put it best when the big blue smurf/cat alien described the main character as "Like a baby". Not just trying to insult him, she was describing him as clumsy, naive, doesn't know better and moves and talks like it. Its pretty much the same sort of situation, even if the other person means well, their still new and learning, making them naive and clumsy on things. So rather then accepting they need to improve, they end up proving they are a baby by doing more things that babies do. I wish I could say I was fully mature, and at 28 I should be, but my patience with some put me in this category at times.

As a westerner myself, and having been on the net a while and seen a lot of things amongst western fans (especially when I was interested in Japanese animation myself), there is a lot of babies... And no a lot of adults... I think as well, there has been some bad cultural problems that have brought out things in the western cultures and it often shows when you don't want it. It ends up making us all look bad and I don't blame you if you ever get insulted. :-/ One-Winged Hawk (talk) 13:18, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

I know how you feel and I really appreciate your kind and constructive suggestion, but the problem about mistranslation is, very much beyond the imagination. Just compare these Re_birthday translations. You'll find a beginner totally ruins the original lyrics.
Result. Rena's grave mistranslation counted million hits. YouTube shows the grave mistranslation on top of the search result. This is not a contribution to the fandom. This is nothing but damage. Damage to the author and the fandom.
Many English speakers don't even understand how Japanese language is complicated. They think they can learn Japanese as they do Spanish or French but this it not true. How many Japanese can speak English and how many British/Americans can speak Japanese? There are much, much less British/Americans who can speak Japanese, right?
Also this is a message "a recommended translator" sent me. Not only I but others are annoyed with grave mistranslations.
I know how you feel about mis-translations, I have stopped watching subtitled on youtube except by a selected few people - mainly by going through your subscription list.
Most of the subtitles on Youtube, especially for the popular songs, are so wrongly interpreted that it makes me sad and angry to see. I can understand deviating from the exact wording a bit to make things sound more natural (I don't like it, but I can see why some might); but many of the subtitles are just completely wrong, where they either break up the sentence incorrectly, or don't even understand basic grammar rules.
I used to see a lot of people asking which online translator and dictionary to use for translations. I tried to hint that if they needed online translator and dictionary on a regular basis, they probably shouldn't be uploading their translation, and should start by practicing and have someone check their work for them, it did't seem to change their mind : (
Damesukekun (talk) 14:31, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
Ah, yeah, I'm aware of popular mistranslations and their impact (saw it in the One Piece western fandom with some of the early translations in the 00's, they were serious and still exist today). We've had to deal with peoples opinions on what a song is even here at the wikia from time to time. Even I'm less keen on putting translations up because what it can led to if it wrong.
Truthfully, I wish people would care less about about the meaning of a song is and just relax, listen to the music, feel the emotion if they don't know what the lyrics mean. When I first came on the net in the early 00's, there were less translators... So when we heard a song in Japanese when could only focus on the "soul" of the music, we had to learn to enjoy the music even though it didn't tell you the meaning of the words. It was better then, translators made more mistakes, but they also tried a lot harder to be careful and often when back and fixed their problems or compared notes with other translators. If they thought they were right, they at least tried to explain why they thought a translation was what it was. :-/
I don't see the problems ending any time soon though, but I didn't think in 2010, the Engloids ever had a chance to get noticed when the Japanese vocaloids were around, much due to the same problems surrounding the whole translations situation. Now they've gained some sort of a fandom, I'm a lot more optimistic on vocaloid itself. Some fans get so into Japanese stuff, they that don't seem to understand as much as they think, that they miss out on any value their own cultures have and see them as "bad". I've known from history lessons at school, how this isn't something unique... People have formed all sorts of love for cultures over the years, Victorian England was obsessed with India and its culture for example in the 1800's. I mean nothing against you or anyone else from Japan and I hope I don't offend, I'm just saying the situation is. You must get bored of this sometimes...
Also, I think your about to become one of the most unpopular editors based on the slow trickle of people coming to criticize your list. Hahaha! I thought I was the most unpopular editor, you trying to steal my title? XD One-Winged Hawk (talk) 17:17, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

Would you be able to...? Edit

https://twitter.com/vocaloid_cv_cfm/status/187013981792251904

Translate this twitter please?

I don't want to be impolite or rude or overstep the mark in demands for translations, but this one is baffling. Also, how are you taking the reaction to the blog being attacked? I'm kinda hoping they haven't put you off of the OS side of the fandom.

I'd offer a cookie for your thoughts, but no matter how hard I ram into my computers USB ports, it doesn't get uploaded on my computer for sending. (lol ;-)) One-Winged Hawk (talk) 15:30, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

ミクやリン・レンも変わらなかったのでKAITOも同じではないでしょうか…?この日はAppendの発売日、くらいで。
Miku and Rin/Len did not change (their birthdays with the release of append). Neither does Kaito, right? The date (append comes) is nothing more than the date of append release, I think.
はい。ただ今回ちょっとappendとは違う部分もあるので、製品説明文で初代KAITOがリリースされた経緯の説明もしようと思ってます。
No. Yet we will give an explanation about the history of Kaito V1 release in the instruction manual. Damesukekun (talk) 11:49, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

あ!英語KAITOの低音調整指示の連絡出さなきゃ〜。きゃ〜。ごめんなさい〜><
Oops! I have to tell (them) to fix Kaito's lower tones. Sorry, (I've forgotten).
お疲れ様です。MEIKOさんも新バージョンですか!V3にクリプトン兄弟姉妹が揃うのは来年夏以降でしょうか……?
Hello. Meiko will be updated, too? The Crypton Vocaloid family V3 lineup won't be released until next summer, right?
コンプリート版制作と並行して正式リリース以外の方法(先行デモなど)も検討できればと思いますが、調整中です。
Maybe we can disclose some (information) (such as (Meiko V3) demos) with the current work of developing (V3 Meiko), but this is still on agenda.
…KAITOより、MEIKOの声のバリエーションが難しいんですよね。うーむ。
(Which) vocal variations (to adopt) for the Meiko (append) bothers me more than for Kaito.
DJ /RUPTUREの民族系エレクトロニカをBGMに仕事中。MEIKOの音声を整えるなど。それにしてもMEIKOとKAITOの楽曲はオリエンタルテイストが多いのはなぜだろう・・・
I'm doing my job listening to ethnic-electro music by DJ /RUPTURE. I'm tuning Meiko vocal and so on. Well, I don't know why but many of Meiko's and Kaito's songs are Asian-styled. Damesukekun (talk) 11:48, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for everything so far, its really appreciated the translations since it means I can move on completely from this era of twitter reading knowing everythings locked up nicely.
https://twitter.com/vocaloid_cv_cfm/status/142245370280423424 You missed out this one. I kinda guessed this was something to do with the impact of vocaloid 3 on vocaloid 2 sound, but I could translate it to something I was confident to add to a page on the wikia. A guess when you can't get a accurate translation is useless... :-/ One-Winged Hawk (talk)
Sorry I overlooked the tweet.
おお、答えれていなかった質問が幾つかありました。現状、betaとして出ている音源については全てVOCALOID2を使用したものでして、原則、VOCALOID3に適合させた上で改めて音声化し、デモソング等としてリリースさせて頂きたいと思います m(_ _)m
Sorry I failed to answer some of your questions. The current (demo) vocals in the beta phase are all synthesized on the Vocaloid2 (platform). We are going to optimize (those voicebanks) for the Vocaloid3 (platform) and synthesize (on V3) again, and release demo songs and other things. (原則 is a rhetorical word in this case and carries no specific point. I omitted the word in the translation.) Damesukekun (talk) 11:48, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
Its okay, I'm grateful for everything I get, if you choose not to translate then thats fine too. ;-)
I don't like pushing translators to do stuff, since I kinda understand how much time it takes to translate stuff. One-Winged Hawk (talk) 09:39, January 8, 2013 (UTC)

Just a note, I've resurrected the Translations Page. All translation requests will put here. I'm trying to make things easier for everyone. Also, what would you suggest to make this page better? :-/ One-Winged Hawk (talk) 11:29, January 8, 2013 (UTC)

Okay I'll see that page. Damesukekun (talk) 13:54, January 9, 2013 (UTC)

About commenting on Piapro Edit

Hello, I signed to Piapro. I was hoping to comment on images that I used for Fanloid wiki to let the author known, but when I comment I think I am not allowed to. Something about 'mobile' phone use or a waiting period? -- Bunai82 (talk) 04:31, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

That's strange. Did you click the right button? To post a message click このメッセージを書き込む. The message should be shorter than 1,000 letters. Damesukekun (talk) 04:58, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, and I searched around some more about this. Apparently I have to be active on the site for at least a week before commenting. I guess they updated the registry since 2010 or so.
I hope I read it correctly. -- Bunai82 (talk) 07:07, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

I hope I'm not bothering you but...Edit

Could you check and see if this English Translation is accurate? Its a translation for the song 第一次ジブン戦争/The First War Against Myself, and I can't really find any other translations. I've never heard of the translator, or if their translations are accurate or not. So could you please see if the translation is usable?

Anyway. Here's the link to the original upload of the song on Nico Nico Douga if you decide to do this.

I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I really need to know because I'm using this translation for a page on Vocaloid Lyrics Wiki (I adopted it a little while ago, and I'm trying to fix it up), and I want all the translations we have up to be reliable. I would be really greatful! (I may also have some other translations that need to be looked at if your up for it...).Nasu (talk) 04:11, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

I have to say this translator doesn't even know basic Japanese words, collocations and grammar rules. Joanna's translations aren't acceptable. Damesukekun (talk) 13:26, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Oh. Well, thanks for checking it out for me. Nasu (talk) 17:06, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Please hold on page sortingEdit

We still haven't finished what to do with the newly separated information, and there is also a current discussion on categories. -- Bunai82 (talk) 19:28, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Subbed VideosEdit

Oh, sorry. I usually try to go with the most popular translators if they are available.

I actually wasn't as much looking for the translation of this song, as I just picked the first link I got after entering the title in YT search.

I'll keep your blacklist in mind. Kimi2.0 (talk) 15:01, March 10, 2013 (UTC)

About page protection Edit

If the editing involves persistent vandals or alteration of the article content and not just the Infobox, then temporary protection is needed, but indefinitely blocking potential contributors from editing isn't entirely necessary, and since there are a lot of people on this wiki they can revert any edits not appropriate for the page. This form of protection isn't good because User:Angel Emfrbl adds a lot of information and sometimes she has to edit from an IP.

The reason for the semi protection on Haku and Neru is due to a particular IP constantly having problems with fanmades in general. This was to discourage that person which I plan to block later if they persist.
