VY2 VOCALOID2 VOCALOID3 VOCALOID5 | Songs Albums Notable Originals

This article is about the VOCALOID3 software known as a voicebank. If you are looking for the VOCALOID concept then click here.

History[]

At the VOCALOID3 announcement, it was announced that both VY1 and VY2 would be updated and sold with the VOCALOID3 software.

VY2v3's boxart was first shown in August 2012,[1] and the release date was later revealed to be October 19, 2012. VY2v3 has both a "Standard" and a "Falsetto" library.[2]

VY2v3 "Second Edition"[]

VY2v3 was one of several products which was re-released in 2013 under "SE" edition. The updated version will host 3 new job plug-ins for the VOCALOID3 engine as well as the latest version of "VOCALOID3' and VOCALOID3 Lite. For users who already own the original vocal, there is no need for a second purchase; aside from a software package update, all the new added bonus content in the SE addition is available for download from the VOCALOID website.

The original version of VY2v3 was discontinued from sale on March 20th 2013.[3]

Mac Update[]

In 2013, a Mac version of VY2v3 called "VY2v3 NEO" was announced. This used the new VOCALOID NEO engine to work on Mac computers.

GENERAL USAGE[]

Product Information
Versions
Trial/Demo Vers?: Yes  Starter Available?: Yes  App vers.?: Yes
Package details as noted:

The update on the VY2 VOCALOID2 vocal and comes with an additional "Falsetto" vocal.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • The banks are meant to be used to extend VY2's overall range beyond that of just a normal vocal.
  • This also allows for more expressiveness with the VY2 vocal; a wide range of tones and frequencies are achievable with this package.

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

When imported into VOCALOID4, the cross-synthesis (XSY) function can be used on both the "Standard" and "falsetto" voicebanks.

  • In total the package offers the equivalent of 2 additional voicebanks achievable via XSY. The total tone variation offered by the package comes to a theoretical 4 voicebanks in total.
  • Note that these vocals were not designed to be used for XSY originally as it was not part of the VOCALOID3 engine functions. Results may be rougher than VOCALOID4 XSY vocals for that reason.

Individual Vocals[]

Product Information
Optimum
  Optimum Range: A1 ~ G3  Optimum Tempo: 70 ~ 140 BPM
  Total Tempo (min-max): 70 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 14, B ~ 9, Total ~ 23
Package details as noted:

The standard vocal focuses on a lower-medium range as well as being an update of the VOCALOID2 VY2 vocal.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • Has a larger range than the Falsetto vocal and overall produces a slighter higher standard of results.
  • VY2v3 is also much easier to tune of the two vocals within the package.
  • Because of the V3 update, VY2v3's voice has much more depth and clarity.
  • At a optimum range going as low as #A1, VY2v3 Standard and V3 Gackpoid jointly hold the title of lowest known Japanese VOCALOID range of VOCALOID3. They are beaten as overall lowest range by Bruno at #E1.
Software issues as noted:
  • There has been a change in optimum vocal range between the original VOCALOID2 vocal and the new VOCALOID3 vocal. It's worth noting this when VSQ/VSQX files originally meant for either vocal are switched to use the other.

VY2v3 Standard

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

XSY allows VY2 STANDARD to switch to FALSETTO on higher notes and back again for lower notes, extending his range on both vocals. Due to some issues with the FALSETTO vocal, XSY allows for subtle hints of the falsetto vocal and thus avoids some problems the FALSETTO vocal creates without fully dedicating the voice to this voicebank.

Product Information
Optimum
  Optimum Range: G#3 ~ E4  Optimum Tempo: 70 ~ 140 BPM
  Total Tempo (min-max): 70 BPM  No. of Keys: W ~ 5, B ~ 4, Total ~ 9
Package details as noted:

A masculine falsetto voice capable of reaching results not achievable by the standard vocal.

Vocal traits as noted:
  • The falsetto vocal is more "flute-like" than the normal VY2 vocals, favoring the higher octaves.
  • As a 'masculine' falsetto, as expected it has little masculinity found within its capabilities and will easily sound like a high pitched female vocalist.
  • It is better suited as a supporting vocal than a lead or solo vocal.
  • Is currently the highest pitched masculine vocal offered by VOCALOID3
  • It is significantly harder to use than the standard vocal.
  • Has the smallest optimum range of any VOCALOID3 vocal.
  • At an optimum vocal range of #E4, the falsetto vocal has the highest masculine vocal range of VOCALOID3.
Software issues as noted:
  • Producers must be careful with switching between VY2v3 and the VY2v3 falsetto to make sure the tone of both vocals match. This issue was raised in regards to the cancelled "Megpoid Falsetto" vocal and is a general issue caused with having separate vocals for normal and falsetto vocals.[4]
  • A 'falsetto' vocal is one of the four human notable vocal registers of the voice - the others being 'vocal fry', 'modal' and 'whistle'. Falsetto itself is found somewhere between 'modal' and 'whistle'. Overall, producers may find this vocal produces unexpected results compared to normal singing vocals.
  • Because of Bplats'/YAMAHA's technique of recording and programming the Falsetto samples, the vocal may sound unrealistic and forced.

VY2v3 Falsetto

Cross-Synthesis as noted:

XSY allows VY2 to switch to STANDARD on lower notes, allowing for a wider range of use. The Falsetto vocal has some issues with a short vocal vocal range and the XSY function allows VY2 to extend the FALSETTO vocals range using the STANDARD vocal in secondary. Note that too much XSY may be bad for the FALSETTO vocal since it is a dramatically different vocal to STANDARD, however, XSY still allows control and thus combat some issues with the FALSETTO vocal.
