History
YANHE's voice was recorded prior to the choosing of an avatar and was intended to be the voicebank for VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT's runner up, Zhiyu Moke. More information can be found on the Controversy Concerns page.
On March 25, 2013, a competition was carried out to have a selection of avatars to choose from. The characters were designed based on the small demo provided, a feminine sounding vocal singing a well known Chinese classic, Mo Li Hua (Jasmine Flower). Fans could select and vote on the design they liked best. The second contest functioned similarly to VOCALOID CHINA's first contest in 2012 (where the winner was Luo Tianyi). The first round finished at the end of April.
On May 13, out of 666 entries, only 15 were selected as finalists.[1] On June 6, the 4 runner ups were announced and with YANHE as the grand winner. Thus, she became a VOCALOID.[2]
After some time since the winning announcement, YANHE's design was readjusted, but not as drastically as the VOCALOID CHINA characters before her. An album called The Stage 1 was revealed in June, featuring early use of YANHE's vocals. Within two months time since the contest ended, she was officially released on July 11, 2013.
