History[]

Pre-Vsinger: 2011-2014[]

In the December 2011, a contest titled "VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT" was launched to determine the design of the first Chinese VOCALOID.[1][2][3] It was noted that official characteristics, such as names, genders, and traits, were not established, leaving the creative details up to the participants' decisions.[4] The contest ended on January 2, 2012.[5]

On January 17, the winner was revealed to be Yayin Gongyu, the original version of Luo Tianyi, in Shanghai.[6] She was the top ranked design of 5 winning entries for the contest, with one of the winning entries being SAKU's MOKO who is now known as Zhiyu Moke.[7] However, it was later found that one of the designs was confirmed to be plagiarized.[8] As this violated the contest rules, this design would be disqualified.[9] The official designs would later be done by ideolo and were expected to be shown in February.[10] This was later pushed back to March.[11]

The final designs were confirmed to be revealed on March 22 through the official website.[12] Since then, Moke was only used as a promotional character concept. VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT noted that the promotional methods for their characters would be different compared to the Japanese vocals, in which the characters would receive their own official biographies.[13]

In early 2013, Shanghai HENIAN and Bplats were developing a second Chinese VOCALOID and hired Seira Ryu as the voice provider. She was instructed to make her voice deeper in order to voice a young male. This VOCALOID was intended to be Moke, however, due to the irresponsible actions of Ren Li, the president of Shanghai HENIAN at the time, YAMAHA took away the character rights to the VOCALOID CHINA cast members and they were no longer allowed to become VOCALOIDs for the time being. This voicebank was used for YANHE instead. More information can be found on the Controversy Concerns page.[14]

In March 2014, Shanghai HENIAN repurchased the character rights for all of the VOCALOID CHINA cast members and relaunched the project as VOCANESE.[15]

Post-Vsinger Launch: 2015-2018[]

On May 29, 2015, during a Q/A Session about Xingchen, Shanghai HENIAN confirmed that all VOCANESE characters were their main priority despite receiving commission works from small groups and other companies.[16]

On December 8, 2016, during a media press, it was stated that Moke and Mo Qingxian were in production.[17]

On June 17, 2017, the Vsinger Live concert was held and Moke's and Qingxian's voicebanks were revealed. Moke performed "Xūnǐ Shàonián". On July 9, his voice provider was revealed to be Shangqing Su.[18]

On May 30, 2018, Moke became available for preorder, and a new V4 design for him was revealed and confirmed to be drawn by TID. The preorder sale began from May 30 to June 30, and his release date was set for July 10.[19][20]

It was later brought to attention that he was delayed and would release on July 16.[21] When brought to question again, he was later pushed back further to July 20.[22]

On August 2, Moke's official weibo account commented that the voicebank shipped.[23]
